I'll be Working with Russell Brunson and His Crew
Out In Idaho for 30 days. Watch it All Happen Here!
How to Win The Internship
of Your Dreams
Ok so I'm checkin' out the warriorforum one day, just to see if there are any posts that I can answer any questions on. The first thing I see is a thread saying "Russell Brunson is offering a marketing internship!" I was all over it like fly's all over shhhhh... don't tell anyone else though, I want this all to myself, is what I was thinking. This is my story of the events that went on just after I saw that thread on the warriorforum.
I consider myself kind of a passionate guy, especially when it comes to my life and the level of success I'm fighting for. So when I saw this thread, I immediately hit buddy (Russell) from every angle I could. (This is southern talk for contacted him in multiple ways)
What's truly wierd, is some crazy "coincidences" played out in the weeks leading up to this event. I mysteriously happened to have found Russell's personal phone number two weeks ago. Then I happened to have built a semi-decent relationship with Garret (Russell's Affiliate Mngr.) and he just happened to have left his cell number on my voicemail from a call before. I had Russell's office number, and another crazy thing was Jason Moffatt was the only reason this thread became visible again. (A marketer that I have a personal/internal love/hate relationship with)
Sometimes so many coincidences line up that it just makes you think a little...You know??
Ok, so I get done with all my passionate "Russell, I am your guy, I'll get the job done at any cost" messages. Then I go about my day like normal, with the obvious "what if" thoughts dancing in my brain. It comes time to go pick up my wife from work. (I work from home doing IM full time as of Feb. '06)
While we are riding to "the little store." (everyone has one of those right?) I figure I might as well test my wife on the possibility that I might, somehow, there could be a chance, maybe I could get this internship opportunity. Lemme tell y'all (more southern talk) it definitely did not go down like a "Brady Bunch" episode. There were more then a couple expletives thrown in when I explained it was for 30 days.
You see, right now we live with my parents. We live with them right now because I felt Port St. Lucie was going to be a great place to buy a house and if we lived with my parents we could save enough money to buy a house. Well at least that's what I sold everyone on, to get this situation to come true. However, in my mind it was a risk I had to take. I was in this vicious cycle with my business, where every bit of money I made had to go to bills. Which meant I never had any money to invest into the business so it could grow and make more money.
I realized I needed a place where I could severely cut my bills and be able to do some serious learning and growing without worrying about my bottom line all the time. So I got my whole family on my side and we all made this move.
It sounds a little selfish, but this was for the betterment of our lives. There was no way I could have grown without this sacrifice. Plus it was only for a limited time.
Anyways, back to the present...well the present for this story anyhow. I'm in the middle of getting reamed by my wife for asking to leave her alone with her in-laws for 30 days and would also miss my son's birthday and... THE PHONE RINGS!
I say to her, my wife, watch this be Russell now.
I struggle to get the phone out of my pocket, flip it over, and it's a 208 area code!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It was Russell!!!
He says "Hey Justin, I got a few messages from you, and chuckled a bit." I said "Yeah, I was on my way home to drop a letter in the mail next too!" We had giggle. (Can grown man have a giggle?)
Russell was calling to let me know the internship was mine for the taking, if I could make it happen.
My mind was BLOWN!
Things like this just didn't happen to me. I never win big shots like this, regardless, I told him that I still had some barriers to get through in having to leave my wife and kid behind for 30 days. He was real cool about it and told me to get back to him in a week. (We joked about me having to close the biggest sale of my life.)
I told my wife like this "Babe, you know I want this, so I know I don't have to ask. I know that this will mean probably the most boring, stressful, and sad months of your life. I won't ask you more then once because I don't want you to feel like I am forcing you into this decision. All I want to say is once I get back - it's all over - I'll know every thing I need to know to finally make it to the next level."
20 minutes of silence...
She said I want you to go. I think we both tear'd up just a smidge and then raved about how cool this was going to be for me. Now, I am an ok marketer, I do better then some. After all I was full time now, but this would give me the polishing that I needed to make it into the "successful" level.
That was that, and now you are reading the site I built to host my live documentation of my whole internship. You should expect lots of video, blogging, articles, tutorials and just plain rants about my daily experiences. I will be your pipeline of information direct from the lion's den. Well as much as the non-disclosure agreements will let me tell you, anyhow.
